Takin’ It to the Streets
Growing an Accessible Community Event Through Strategic Partnership
Like many nonprofit organizations, Cleveland Sight Center successfully grew their White Cane Walk year over year through the dedication of an incredibly hardworking internal team. However, with that growth came increasing logistical complexity and mounting pressure behind the scenes.
Cleveland Sight Center recognized they needed a strategic event partner who could help prioritize moving pieces, streamline operations, and elevate the overall guest experience, all while allowing their staff to stay focused on mission-driven engagement. That’s where Palmer Event Solutions stepped in to help steward the event’s next phase of evolution.
Together, our teams approached the event through a “Good, Better, Best” lens, identifying opportunities for meaningful growth while remaining realistic about capacity, resources, and long-term sustainability.
One example was the walk route itself. A long-term vision for the event was to take the walk off the sidewalks and onto the streets of University Circle, creating a more visible and immersive community experience. Now, in our second year working together, Palmer Event Solutions guided the planning, permitting, and logistics needed to make that goal achievable for the 2026 walk, transforming the route into a stronger reflection of the event’s energy, visibility, and mission.
Accessibility also remained a central consideration throughout the planning process — not as a standalone feature, but as part of a holistic guest experience strategy.
The White Cane Walk serves blind and visually impaired participants while also welcoming sighted family members, supporters, sponsors, and community advocates. That meant every planning decision needed to balance accessibility, safety, comfort, communication, and overall event flow for a wide range of attendees.
From route planning and wayfinding to guest communication and on-site experience design, Palmer Event Solutions helped create an environment that supported all attendees while honoring the mission at the heart of the event.
At Palmer Event Solutions, we believe the strongest partnerships happen when trust allows organizations to lean into expertise, embrace collaboration, and evolve intentionally. The White Cane Walk is a powerful example of what can happen when a passionate nonprofit team and strategic event partner work hand in hand to grow something meaningful together.
